" Real isnt how you are made, its a thing that happens to you." said the Skin Horse.
"Does it hurt?" asked the Rabbit.
"Sometimes..." said the Skin Horse for he was always truthful "When you are real, you dont mind being hurt"
"Does it happen all at once, like being wound up," he asked, "Or bit by bit?"
"It doesnt happen all at once,"said the Skin Horse.
"You become. It takes a long time. That's why it doesnt often happen to people who break easily, or have sharp edges, or who have to be carefully kept. Generally, by the time you are Real, most of your hair has been loved off, and your eyes drop out and you get loose in the joints and very shabby. But these things don't matter at all because once you are Real, you can't be ugly, except to people who dont understand... but once you are Real, you cant become unreal again, it last forever..."
From "The Velveteen Rabbit" by Margery Williams
I was at this Tcafe in cameron highlands when i chance upon this book by danielle steel( i know Ms K does not like her, haha) and when i opened the book, ,i caught sight of this extract from the book "The Velveteen Rabbit" and i found it really meaningful so thought i'd shared it here.
Becoming Real is something that God is still in the process of teaching me and i guess its the same when it comes to mastering the art of feminine mystique, it takes time, but once you become, it lasts forever...
